Data privacy policy

This privacy policy outlines how Unlost uses the personal and business data ("Data") we collect:

1. Purposes: We collect Data for the following purposes:
   • Website: Data on visitors of our website for analysis and security purposes,
   • Investment: Data for investment decisions and monitoring of companies we have active or planned investments in ("startups"), and
   • Services: Data we use to perform services agreed with Startups, clients and partners.
2. Website Data are collected by ourselves but this can involve tracking by third parties we trust. We collect IP addresses, time and URLs but currently do not use cookies or other analytics software to track user visits or behavior.
3. Investment Data comprise qualitative and quantitative data and documentation as well as derived analyses and include information on the startups' management, team, co-investors, markets and potential and actual clients, partners and investors.
4. NDAs: Investment and Services Data are typically provided by startups, clients and partners themselves, typically under a non-disclosure agreement ("NDA"). We may use third-party data sources to integrate with these data, including for instance analyst reports, company directories or news information. Data derived using NDA-protected data are considered protected under the same NDA and any other applicable agreements. If no NDA is in force, we will nevertheless protect data obtained as is customary in comparable situations.
5. AIs: We use external AI-based content analysis and generation services ("AIs"). If their terms guarantee privacy and exclude reuse of user data, we may use Data as input for such AIs, preferrably in anonymized form.
6. SaaS storage: We securely store Data on third-party cloud and communication infrastructure ("SaaS") that is known as secure in the market and compliant with European and German data privacy laws and regulations. Particularly sensitive Data we store locally with adequate encryption, based on our own risk assessment or a specific agreement.
7. No sharing: We do not share Data with other third parties (beyond the purposes given in this policy), for instance to allow them to offer their products and services. We may, however, be legally forced to share Data with an official authority.
8. Retention: We delete Data that are not relevant for any purpose in due time. We also handle data economically, avoiding unnecessary redundancy. We archive emails and other correspondence for the legally required period.
9. Data protection rights: If your personally identifiable information or other personal data is included in the Data, you have various data protection rights. You can demand from us to gain a copy of your personal data as well as to correct or complete them if you believe them to be inaccurate. Under certain conditions, you can demand us to erase your personal data, to restrict or stop processing them, or to transfer them to you or another organization. Please contact us for any request regarding data privacy or any data we may have collected on you. If we don't address your concern in any satisfactory manner, you may contact the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection (Bundesdatenschutzbeauftragter).
10. Review cycle: This policy is reviewed regularly, at least annually, and the current version as of 15 December 2024 is documented online.
